This was the week of the Amos Forestiers in the Midget AAA development hockey league. Not only did they have a big weekend in sweeping both games on the road, but the league authorities have today revealed that not one, but two of their members are the offensive and defensive players of the week at the league level.
In offense, no one will be surprised to learn that prospect Israel Mianscum deserves the prize. He scored 4 goals and 1 assist, including the two winning goals against Lac St-Louis Lions and Laval-Montreal Rousseau Royal. He also completed a hat trick in the second game.
From Mistissini, the prolific 15-year-old Cree player claims 15 goals (and 21 points) in 23 games, making him the league’s sixth best goal scorer while Joshua Roy (Lévis) and Matt Choupani (Lac Louis) dominate with 24 goals each.
Giasson for a second time
For the defensive player award, goalkeeper Gérémy Giasson reaps the weekly honor. He got the two victorious starts between the pipes. He blocked 73 of the 76 shots he faced in two games for an excellent save percentage of ,960.
If Israel Mianscum had the RDS first star in both games, the Preissac netminder was recognized as the second star in each case.
This is the second time this season that Gérémy Giasson deserves the defensive player of the week title in the Midget AAA league. He earned the first nomination of the season during the opening trip against the Notre-Dame Albatros in Rivière-du-Loup.
Congratulations to both players, but also to the whole team for this wonderful weekend!
Phenix in town
With a winning streak of three games away from home, the Forestiers will now try to take advantage of this momentum to turn the tide at home where Guillaume Bisaillons’s team won only one only game in 2018-2019. The Esther-Blondin Phénix will be visiting Amos friday (7pm) and saturday (1pm).
